Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 73 — Kr̥ṣṇa’s Appraisal of Bhīma’s Altered Temper and Reaffirmation of Martial Resolve

शमश्न नन्दिवेगानामित्येते कुलपांसना: । युगान्ते कृष्ण सम्भूता: कुले कुपुरुषाधमा:

śamaśna nandivegānām ity ete kulapāṃsanāḥ | yugānte kṛṣṇa-sambhūtāḥ kule kupuruṣādhamāḥ ||

Bhīma dit : «Śamaśna, de la lignée de Nandivega, et d’autres semblables—voilà la “suie” et l’opprobre de leurs clans. À la fin d’un âge, lorsque l’ordre s’effondre et que le dharma vacille, de tels hommes vils naissent dans diverses maisons royales, comme surgis des ténèbres mêmes, apportant ruine et discorde intestine. De même qu’au temps où le dharma fut bouleversé une effroyable querelle s’éleva jadis parmi les Asura puissants, flamboyants de vigueur, ainsi, au yugānta, ces Kṣatriya abjects apparaissent dans des dynasties différentes, devenant causes de déchéance et de conflit.»
