Amba–Rama–Bhishma Dialogue on Vow and Refuge
The verse highlights the kṣatriya ethic of meeting a challenge directly: when honor and duty are invoked, warriors may feel compelled to demonstrate valor. It also foreshadows how personal obligations and reputations can escalate into conflict even among the righteous.
Bhīṣma narrates that he and the powerful Paraśurāma arrived at Kurukṣetra and immediately readied themselves to fight, each intent on proving his prowess against the other.
