Division and Standardization of the Kaurava Host
ते रथान् रथिन: श्रेष्ठा हयांश्ष हयकोविदा: । सज्जयन्ि सम नागांश्व॒ नागशिक्षास्वनुछिता:
te rathān rathinaḥ śreṣṭhā hayāṁś ca hayakovidāḥ | sajjayan samānāgāṁś ca nāgaśikṣāsv anuśikṣitāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : Les meilleurs guerriers de char se mirent à préparer leurs chars ; ceux qui excellaient dans l’art de la cavalerie apprêtèrent les chevaux ; et les hommes formés à la discipline du maniement des éléphants équipèrent aussi les éléphants. La scène souligne un devoir martial bien ordonné : chaque groupe accomplit la tâche qui lui revient avec une compétence acquise, tandis que les troupes se dirigent vers le conflit à venir.
