योग एष हि योगानां किमन्यद् योगलक्षणम् । एवं पश्यं प्रपश्यन्ति आत्मानमजरं परम्
yoga eṣa hi yogānāṁ kim anyad yogalakṣaṇam | evaṁ paśyan prapaśyanti ātmānam ajaraṁ param ||
Vasiṣṭha dit : «Ceci est bien l’essence de tous les yogas ; quel autre signe distinctif du yoga pourrait-il y avoir ? En voyant ainsi, les voyants disciplinés contemplent le Soi suprême : non-né, impérissable et transcendant. Une telle vision n’est pas simple théorie, mais une réalisation éthique et contemplative où l’ignorance se dissipe et où la lumière intérieure de la conscience révèle la Réalité sans tache, sans attributs.»
वसिष्ठ उवाच
Yoga is defined here as direct, clear seeing of the Supreme Self—ageless and transcendent. The verse frames authentic yoga not as external technique alone but as inner realization that culminates in the vision of the highest Ātman.
In Śānti Parva’s instructional setting, Vasiṣṭha speaks as a teacher, summarizing what constitutes the true hallmark of yoga: the contemplative vision by which accomplished practitioners behold the Supreme Self.
