Adhyātma–Adhibhūta–Adhidaivata Correspondences and the Triguṇa Lakṣaṇas (Śānti-parva 301)
शिष्टं तत्र मनस्तात इन्द्रियाणि च भारत । आगच्छन्ति यथाकालं गुरो: संदेशकारिण:
śiṣṭaṃ tatra manas tāta indriyāṇi ca bhārata | āgacchanti yathākālaṃ guroḥ saṃdeśakāriṇaḥ ||
Bhīṣma dit : «Mon enfant, ô Bhārata, là-bas l’esprit et les sens demeurent comme un reste. Ô descendant de Bharata, ils vont et viennent en leur temps, tels des disciples qui n’agissent qu’en conformité avec l’ordre du maître.»
भीष्म उवाच
Even for one who is liberated while living, the mind and senses may continue to function due to residual momentum (prārabdha). Yet they no longer rule the person; they operate in an orderly, time-bound way, like disciplined students obeying a guru.
In Bhīṣma’s instruction to Yudhiṣṭhira in the Śānti Parva, he explains the post-realization condition: the self is established in the Supreme, while the remaining psycho-physical instruments (mind and senses) continue their limited activity until the body’s destined course ends.
