Adhyātma–Adhibhūta–Adhidaivata Correspondences and the Triguṇa Lakṣaṇas (Śānti-parva 301)
आत्मदोषांश्व विज्ञाय सर्वानात्मनि संश्रितान् स्वदेहादुत्थितान् गन्धांस्तथा विज्ञाय चाशुभान्
ātmadoṣāṁś ca vijñāya sarvān ātmani saṁśritān | svadehād utthitān gandhāṁs tathā vijñāya cāśubhān ||
Bhishma dit : Ayant clairement reconnu toutes ses propres fautes, établies en soi-même, et discernant aussi les odeurs impures et déplaisantes qui s’élèvent sans cesse de son propre corps, il faut se détourner avec détachement (vairāgya) et s’efforcer de se délivrer des liens du devenir en contemplant le Soi suprême, le Paramātman.
भीष्म उवाच
To cultivate detachment by honestly recognizing one’s inner faults and the inherent impurity of the body, and then to direct the mind toward the Supreme Self for liberation.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma continues his instruction on dharma and liberation, urging the listener to reflect on personal defects and bodily impermanence/impurity as a means to awaken renunciation and pursue mokṣa.
