Sāṃkhya–Yoga Distinction and Instruction on Yogic Strength
ततः प्रणम्य वरदं देवं देवीमुमां तथा । उशना प्राप तद्धीमान् गतिमिष्टां महामुनि:,तदनन्तर बुद्धिमान् महामुनि शुक्राचार्यने वरदायक देवता महादेवजी तथा उमादेवीको प्रणाम करके अभीष्ट गति प्राप्त कर ली
tataḥ praṇamya varadaṃ devaṃ devīm umāṃ tathā | uśanā prāpa taddhīmān gatim iṣṭāṃ mahāmuniḥ ||
Alors le sage grand rishi Uśanā (Śukrācārya), après s’être incliné devant le Seigneur dispensateur de grâces, Mahādeva, et de même devant la Déesse Umā, atteignit le but désiré. Le passage souligne que l’humilité et la dévotion—honorant à la fois Śiva et Umā—mènent à l’accomplissement d’une aspiration légitime.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights that sincere reverence (praṇāma) to the divine—here explicitly to both Śiva as the boon-giver and to Umā—supports the attainment of one’s rightful and desired end (iṣṭā gati). It frames devotion and humility as efficacious spiritual disciplines.
Bhīṣma narrates that the great sage Uśanā (Śukrācārya), after bowing to Mahādeva and Umā, successfully reaches the goal he sought—implying divine favor granted through worship and proper veneration.
