Adhyāya 262: Śabda-brahman, Para-brahman, and the Ethics of Tyāga

Kapila–Syūmaraśmi Saṃvāda

Educational Q&A

Worship of the gods should follow scriptural guidance and is fulfilled through disciplined, ethically grounded acts—such as proper homa with appropriate oblations—along with reverence (namaskāra), sacred study (svādhyāya), and offerings like ghee and food.

In Śānti Parva, Chūlādhāra is instructing on dharma by explaining what constitutes valid worship: not mere formality, but scripturally sanctioned practices and offerings that align devotion with right conduct.
