Kapila–Cow Dialogue: Authority of Householder and Renunciant Dharmas
तुलाधार उवाच आयानेवासि विदितो मम ब्रह्मन् न संशय: । ब्रवीमि यत् तु वचन तच्छुणुष्व द्विजोत्तम
tulādhāra uvāca | āyāne evāsi vidito mama brahman na saṁśayaḥ | bravīmi yat tu vacanaṁ tac chṛṇuṣva dvijottama ||
Tulādhāra dit : «Ô brahmane, je savais déjà—sans le moindre doute—que tu étais en route vers moi. Maintenant, ô le meilleur des deux-fois-nés, écoute avec attention les paroles que je vais prononcer.»
तुलाधार उवाच
The verse sets an ethical and pedagogical tone: the speaker claims clear foreknowledge and then calls for attentive listening, emphasizing receptivity and disciplined hearing as prerequisites for dharma-instruction.
Tulādhāra addresses a Brahmin visitor, stating that the visitor’s arrival was already known to him and inviting him to listen carefully to the forthcoming discourse.
