कालनिर्णयः, युगधर्मवर्णनम्, सृष्टिक्रमश्च
Time-Reckoning, Yuga-Dharma, and the Sequence of Creation
दूसरे लोग उस कालको ऋतु, मास, पक्ष, दिन, क्षण, पूर्वाह्न, अपराह्न और मध्याह्न कहते हैं। उसीको विद्वान् पुरुष मुहूर्त भी कहते हैं। वह एक होकर भी अनेक प्रकारका बताया जाता है। इन्द्र! तुम उस कालको इस प्रकार जानो। यह सारा जगत् उसीके अधीन है ।।
bahūnīndra-sahasrāṇi samatītāni vāsava | balavīryopapannāni yathaiva tvaṃ śacīpate ||
Śakra (Indra) dit : «Ô Vāsava, d’innombrables milliers d’Indra se sont déjà éteints—chacun pourvu de force et de vaillance héroïque, comme toi, ô seigneur de Śacī. Ainsi dois-tu comprendre le Temps : bien qu’il soit un, on le désigne de multiples façons—saison, mois, quinzaine, jour, instant, avant-midi, après-midi et midi ; les sages l’appellent aussi muhūrta. Le monde entier est soumis à sa souveraineté.»
