अध्याय २२० — बलिवासवसंवादः

Bali–Vāsava Dialogue on Kāla and Steadfastness

कामक्रोधौ च लोभश्व परस्येष्याविकत्थना । कामक्रोधौ वशे कृत्वा ब्रह्मचारी जितेन्द्रिय:

bhīṣma uvāca | kāmakrodhau ca lobhaś ca parasyaiṣyāvikatthanā | kāmakrodhau vaśe kṛtvā brahmacārī jitendriyaḥ |

Bhīṣma dit : «Le désir et la colère, ainsi que l’avidité, l’envie envers autrui et la vantardise d’une louange mensongère de soi—voilà les fautes qui emplissent de tels hommes. C’est pourquoi le brahmane qui observe les vœux les plus élevés et les plus austères doit se rendre maître de lui-même : qu’il mette le désir et la colère sous sa domination, qu’il vive dans le brahmacarya et, d’une énergie constante, s’adonne à de rudes austérités. Sans obstacles, qu’il parcoure le monde avec patience, attendant l’heure fixée de la mort.»
