The verse highlights the authority of a teacher–disciple lineage and the moral-spiritual weight of sustained Vedic discipline: long, continuous sacrificial observance is presented as a marker of extraordinary commitment and accumulated merit.
Bhīṣma is describing a revered figure by identifying him through his lineage (as Āsuri’s first disciple), his exceptional lifespan, and his famed performance of a thousand-year satra at Pañcasrotas.
