गुणैर्यस्त्ववरैर्युक्त: कथं विद्यात्‌ परान्‌ गुणान्‌ । अनुमानाद्धि गन्तव्यं गुणैरवयवै: परम्‌

Transliteration

guṇair yas tv avarair yuktaḥ kathaṃ vidyāt parān guṇān | anumānād dhi gantavyaṃ guṇair avayavaiḥ param ||

Translation

Bhīṣma dit : «Comment celui qui est lié à des qualités inférieures pourrait-il connaître les qualités supérieures ? Le Suprême s’approche par inférence : de même que l’on infère le feu de la fumée, ainsi la nature du Brahman suprême se laisse entrevoir à travers ses attributs et ses signes manifestes.»
