मनु-उपदेशः — भूत-उत्पत्ति, इन्द्रिय-निवृत्ति, तथा पर-स्वभाव-विवेकः
Manu’s Instruction on Elemental Origination, Sense-Withdrawal, and Discrimination of the Supreme Nature
रश्मीस्तेषां स मनसा यदा सम्यड्नियच्छति । तदा प्रकाशते<स्यात्मा घटे दीपो ज्वलन्निव
raśmīs teṣāṃ sa manasā yadā samyaṅ niyacchati | tadā prakāśate 'syātmā ghaṭe dīpo jvalann iva ||
Bhīṣma dit : Lorsque l’homme, par le mental, retient comme il faut les rênes des sens, alors le Soi en lui se met à rayonner—tel une lampe qui brûle d’un feu stable à l’intérieur d’un pot. L’enseignement met l’accent sur la discipline intérieure : la maîtrise éthique commence par le gouvernement des sens au moyen d’un mental bien orienté, et de cette retenue naît la claire illumination de soi, non l’éclat extérieur.
