मृत्यु-काल-प्रबोधनम् (Instruction on Mortality, Time, and Truth) — Mahābhārata, Śānti-parva 169
दुःशीलो5थाकृतात्मा च नृशंस: कितवस्तथा । मित्रैरपकृतिर्नित्यमिच्छते<र्थ परस्य य:
duḥśīlo ’thākṛtātmā ca nṛśaṁsaḥ kitavas tathā | mitrair apakṛtir nityam icchate ’rthaṁ parasya yaḥ ||
Bhīṣma dit : «Celui qui est mal élevé et sans discipline, cruel et perfide, joueur, qui nuit sans cesse à ses amis et brûle toujours de s’emparer du bien d’autrui—qu’on ne s’allie jamais avec un tel homme. De même, celui qui a l’habitude de chercher les fautes des autres n’est pas fait pour conclure un pacte. À présent, je décrirai ceux qui sont aptes à l’alliance ; écoutez.»
