Apaddharma Determination: Dialogue of Viśvāmitra and the Śvapaca
यद् यदेवंगतेनाद्य शक्यं कर्तु मया तव । तदाज्ञापय कर्तास्मि संधिरेवास्तु नौ सखे
yad yadevaṃgatena adya śakyaṃ kartuṃ mayā tava | tad ājñāpaya kartāsmi sandhir evāstu nau sakhe ||
Bhishma dit : «Ami, dans l’état où je me trouve à présent, tout service que je puis encore te rendre—ordonne-le-moi ; je l’accomplirai à coup sûr. Qu’il y ait réconciliation et concorde entre nous deux, mon ami.»
भीष्म उवाच
Even in weakness or decline, one should uphold dharma through humility, readiness to serve, and a sincere commitment to peace (sandhi) rather than continued hostility.
Bhishma, speaking from a diminished condition, tells his interlocutor that he will do whatever is still within his power if commanded, and he urges that their relationship be governed by reconciliation and concord.
