अविश्वास-निति: ब्रह्मदत्त–पूजनी-संवादः

Policy of Caution: The Brahmadatta–Pūjanī Dialogue

तदस्य स्याद्‌ बलार्थ वा धन यज्ञार्थमेव च । भरतनन्दन! ये समस्त प्रजाएँ क्षत्रियोंकी हैं। राज्यभोग भी क्षत्रियोंके ही हैं और सारा धन भी उन्हींका है

tadasya syād balārthaṃ vā dhanaṃ yajñārtham eva ca | bharatanandana! ye samastāḥ prajāḥ kṣatriyāṇāṃ santi | rājyabhogā api kṣatriyāṇām eva santi, sarvaṃ dhanaṃ ca teṣām eva, na anyasya; kintu tad dhanaṃ tasya senāyai vā yajñānuṣṭhānāya vā bhavati |

Bhishma dit : «Cette richesse doit être tenue pour destinée soit à la force—c’est-à-dire à l’entretien de l’armée—soit uniquement à l’accomplissement des sacrifices. Ô descendant de Bharata ! Tous les sujets relèvent des kshatriya ; les jouissances de la souveraineté appartiennent aussi aux kshatriya, et toute richesse est à eux, non à un autre. Pourtant, cette richesse n’est pas pour l’indulgence privée : elle sert à soutenir les forces du roi ou à maintenir les rites sacrés.»
