Upāya-dharma and Senāyoga: Expedient Ethics & Army Deployment
यतो वायुर्यत: सूर्यो यत: शुक्रस्ततो जय: । पूर्व पूर्व ज्याय एषां संनिपाते युधिषछ्िर
yato vāyur yataḥ sūryo yataḥ śukras tato jayaḥ | pūrvaḥ pūrvaḥ jyāya eṣāṁ sannipāte yudhiṣṭhira ||
Bhishma dit : « La victoire s’obtient lorsqu’on combat en ayant l’arrière tourné vers la direction d’où vient le vent, vers celle où se tient le soleil et vers celle où l’on voit Vénus (Shukra). Ô Yudhisthira, si ces trois repères sont en des directions différentes et ne peuvent être accordés, alors celui qui a été nommé le premier l’emporte : ainsi, en gardant le vent dans le dos, même si les deux autres restent en face, on peut encore combattre efficacement. »
