The verse underscores the Mahābhārata’s ethic that spiritual power and legitimate attainments (such as boons) arise from disciplined tapas—sustained, purposeful austerity—performed by a great-souled being.
The narrator describes the travelers’ sight of an excellent forest-site associated with Kubera, identifying it as the place where Kubera once practiced great austerities and gained many boons.
