Adhyāya 33: Rauhiṇeya (Balarāma) is welcomed and takes his seat to witness the gadā-engagement
उन्मत्तमिव मातज्ुं तलशब्देन मानवा: । भूय: संहर्षयामासू राजन् दुर्योधनं नृपम्,राजन! जैसे मतवाले हाथीको मनुष्य ताली बजाकर कुपित कर देते हैं, उसी प्रकार उन्होंने बारंबार ताल ठोककर राजा दुर्योधनके युद्धविषयक हर्ष और उत्साहको बढ़ाया
unmattam iva mātaṅgaṃ talaśabdena mānavāḥ | bhūyaḥ saṃharṣayāmāsu rājann duryodhanaṃ nṛpam ||
Ô Roi, de même que les hommes excitent un éléphant en rut par de bruyantes claquements de mains, ainsi frappèrent-ils leurs paumes à maintes reprises; et par ce vacarme ils attisèrent davantage l’ivresse guerrière et l’ardeur au combat du roi Duryodhana—image qui rappelle combien l’acclamation du peuple peut nourrir une fierté téméraire aux confins du dharma.
