Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how spiritual-ritual acts (tapas and sacrifice) can generate decisive worldly outcomes, and how kinship-based loyalty strongly influences political alignment; such partiality, though natural, becomes ethically and strategically significant in a conflict setting.

Yāja and Upayāja, through austerity connected with a fire-rite, bring forth Dhṛṣṭadyumna from the fire and Draupadī from the altar’s center. The narrator then notes that Dhṛṣṭadyumna, as the Pāṇḍavas’ brother-in-law, is devoted to their interests, which causes apprehension in the opposing camp.
