Śiśupāla-janma-lakṣaṇaṃ (Śiśupāla’s birth marks and the prophecy of his end)
नूनमेतत् समादातु पुनरिच्छत्यधोक्षज: । यदस्य शिशुपालस्य तेजस्तिष्ठति भारत,“भारत! अवश्य ही भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण इस शिशुपालके भीतर उनका जो तेज है, उसे पुनः समेट लेना चाहते हैं
nūnam etat samādātu punar icchaty adhokṣajaḥ | yad asya śiśupālasya tejas tiṣṭhati bhārata ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : « Ô Bhārata, assurément le Seigneur Adhokṣaja (Śrī Kṛṣṇa) veut à présent recueillir de nouveau en Lui-même cette radiance divine qui demeure en Śiśupāla. »
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames Kṛṣṇa’s act as the restoration of cosmic order: whatever divine potency (tejas) appears in a being ultimately belongs to the Supreme and can be withdrawn. It suggests that power and glory are not autonomous possessions but entrusted energies governed by dharma.
In the context of the Rājasūya assembly, Śiśupāla’s hostility culminates in his downfall. The narrator interprets the moment as Kṛṣṇa intending to reclaim the tejas residing in Śiśupāla—i.e., the divine radiance returning to its source after Śiśupāla’s end.
