महीवियद्दिगम्बूनां सर्वनाशमिवाद्धुतम् । कर्मणोरिव वैफल्यमुभयो: पुण्यपापयो:
mahīviyaddigambūnāṃ sarvanāśam ivādbhūtam | karmaṇor iva vaiphalyam ubhayoḥ puṇyapāpayoḥ ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana dit : «Ô roi, cela paraissait aussi prodigieux que l’anéantissement de la terre, du ciel, des directions et des eaux — comme la vanité même des deux sortes d’actes, le mérite et le péché.» De même, l’annonce de la mort de Karṇa au combat semblait presque impossible, comme si l’ordre moral avait été renversé.
