Chapter 99: Sātyaki and Duḥśāsana’s engagement
क्षीबा इवान्ये चोन्मत्ता रज्भेष्विव च वारणा: | उच्चुक्रुशु रथान्योन्यं जघ्नुरन्योन्यमेव च,रंगस्थलके समान उस रणक्षेत्रमें अन्य बहुत-से मत्त और उन्मत्त हाथी एक-दूसरेको देखकर चिग्घाड़ते और परस्पर आघात-प्रत्याघात करते थे
sañjaya uvāca | kṣībā ivānye conmattā rajjveṣv iva ca vāraṇāḥ | uccukruśu rathān anyonyaṃ jaghnur anyonyam eva ca ||
Sañjaya dit : Tels des hommes ivres, tels des éléphants devenus fous et comme empêtrés dans des cordes, beaucoup d’autres, sur ce champ de bataille, poussèrent de grands barrissements ; ils se ruèrent sur les chars les uns des autres et se frappèrent sans relâche. La scène montre que, lorsque la colère et l’illusion s’emparent des guerriers, discernement et retenue s’effondrent, et la violence devient aveugle—même contre ceux qui se trouvent tout près.
