Description of War Standards
The verse highlights how political counsel and battlefield strategy can be directed toward preventing the fulfillment of a warrior’s vowed act. It implicitly raises an ethical tension: intelligence and planning are powerful, but their moral weight depends on whether they serve dharma or merely protect one’s side through obstruction and expediency.
Sañjaya reports that, after hearing the situation, Duryodhana and his advisers will deliberate on measures to ensure that Arjuna does not manage to kill Jayadratha in the ongoing battle—foreshadowing coordinated defensive tactics around Jayadratha.
