Lineage here functions as an ethical marker: one born in a heroic, dharmic line is expected to uphold courage and self-respect, not collapse into degrading speech. The verse underscores the kṣatriya ideal that inner resolve should match one’s noble responsibilities.
Sañjaya comments on a warrior’s character—identifying him as Subhadrā’s son and Kṛṣṇa’s nephew (i.e., Abhimanyu)—to argue that he would not have spoken in a weak, dejected way. The remark reinforces Abhimanyu’s reputation for valor amid the grim events of the Droṇa Parva.
