Droṇa-parva 55
ह्ृदयेन मया पूर्व वृतां वै वृतवानसि । यस्माद् वृता त्वया विप्र मा गा: स्वर्ग यथेप्सया,“ब्रह्मन! मैंने मन-ही-मन पहले ही जिसका वरण कर लिया था, उसीका तुमने वरण किया है। अतः तुमने मेरी मनोनीत पत्नीको वर लिया है, इसलिये अब तुम इच्छानुसार स्वर्गमें नहीं जा सकते”
hṛdayena mayā pūrvaṃ vṛtāṃ vai vṛtavān asi | yasmād vṛtā tvayā vipra mā gāḥ svargaṃ yathepsayā ||
Parvata dit : «Ô brāhmane, dans mon cœur je l’avais déjà choisie auparavant ; et pourtant tu as choisi cette même femme. Puisque tu as prise pour épouse celle que j’avais élue en secret, tu ne pourras plus désormais gagner le ciel selon ton bon vouloir.»
