Abhimanyu advances toward Droṇa’s host
nāhaṃ pārthena jātaḥ syāṃ na ca jātaḥ subhadrayā | yadi me saṃyuge kaścid jīvito nādya mucyate ||
The verse emphasizes the kṣatriya ideal of steadfastness: a warrior binds himself by a public vow, staking honor and identity on fulfilling a duty in battle. It illustrates how personal reputation and lineage are invoked to intensify commitment to one’s chosen course.
In the midst of the Drona Parva’s fierce fighting, Bhīma makes a thunderous declaration that none who engage him today should escape alive. It functions as a dramatic oath meant to inspire allies, intimidate opponents, and signal his readiness for decisive action.
