Karṇa’s Lament upon Seeing Bhīṣma Fallen
Competence in war is not only personal valor; it also depends on disciplined logistics (kośa), sound counsel (mantra), coherent tactical organization (vyūha), and skilled use of arms (praharaṇa). The verse highlights integrated leadership where planning and resources support battlefield action.
Sañjaya is describing a warrior/leader’s excellence across multiple domains of warfare—resource management, strategic counsel, formation tactics, and weaponry—within the Drona Parva context, where the conduct and organization of the Kurukṣetra battle are being recounted to Dhṛtarāṣṭra.
