तद्‌ युद्धमभवद्‌ घोरं वृद्धयो: सहसेनयो: । यथा महायूथपयोर्दििपयो: सम्प्रभिन्नयो:

Transliteration

tad yuddham abhavad ghoraṁ vṛddhayoḥ saha-senayoḥ | yathā mahā-yūthapayoḥ dvipayoḥ samprabhinnayoḥ ||

Translation

Sañjaya dit : Alors s’éleva un combat effroyable entre ces deux chefs âgés, avec leurs armées—tel le heurt de deux grands seigneurs des éléphants, maîtres de vastes hardes, rendus furieux par l’ivresse du rut. La scène fait sentir que, lorsque des guerriers aguerris se rencontrent dans la colère, la lutte devient accablante pour tous alentour, entraînant des forces entières dans l’élan violent de leur duel personnel.
