प्रादुश्षक्रे महामायां कर्ण प्रति महारथम्‌ | तब महाबली भीमसेनकुमारने जोर-जोरसे हँसकर समरभूमिमें महारथी कर्णके प्रति अपनी महामाया प्रकट की

prāduśśakre mahāmāyāṃ karṇa prati mahāratham | tadā mahābalī bhīmasenakumāraḥ jora-jora-se haṃsann iva samarabhūmau mahārathī karṇaṃ prati svāṃ mahāmāyāṃ prakaṭayām āsa |

Sañjaya dit : Alors le puissant fils de Bhīmasena, éclatant d’un rire sonore, déploya sur le champ de bataille une grande illusion, une Mahāmāyā, contre Karṇa, le plus éminent des guerriers de char. Dans l’atmosphère morale de la guerre, cet instant rappelle qu’à côté de la vaillance et de l’art martial, la ruse et les apparences trompeuses pouvaient aussi être mises en œuvre pour ébranler l’adversaire, soulevant la question des limites de la conduite juste au cœur d’une lutte désespérée.
