vivyadhuḥ somakās tūrṇaṃ samantāc charavṛṣṭibhiḥ | tatra droṇo 'harat prāṇān kṣatriyāṇāṃ viśāmpate ||
Sañjaya dit : Les Somakas frappèrent promptement de toutes parts par des averses de flèches. Là, Droṇa arrachait la vie aux kṣatriya, ô seigneur des peuples : image de l’élan funeste de la guerre, où prouesse et devoir sur le champ de bataille se changent en carnage sans relâche.
संजय उवाच

Seeing Droṇa cutting down warriors, the Somakas counterattack immediately, surrounding him and wounding him with concentrated volleys of arrows, while Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Droṇa is taking the lives of many kṣatriyas.
