Educational Q&A

The line highlights a recurring Mahābhārata theme: in war, perception of an opponent’s stance or resolve immediately shapes action. It also subtly points to the moral tension of kṣatriya-dharma—valor and duty drive responses even when the broader ethical cost is grave.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that, after observing a particular warrior ‘standing thus’ (firmly positioned), the Kaurava-side fighters (‘yours’) react from the confidence of their martial prowess, setting up the next movement in the battle description.
