Adhyāya 141 — Night duels: Śaineya and Bhūriśravas; Droṇi and Ghaṭotkaca; Bhīma and Duryodhana
ततो भीमो महाबाहु: संरम्भी दृढविक्रम: । अस्त्रैरस्त्राणि संवार्य शरैरविव्याध सूतजम्,तदनन्तर क्रोधमें भरे हुए सुदृढ़ पराक्रमी महाबाहु भीमसेनने अपने अस्त्रोंद्वारा कर्णके अस्त्रोंका निवारण करके उसे बाणोंसे बींध डाला
tato bhīmo mahābāhuḥ saṃrambhī dṛḍhavikramaḥ | astrair astrāṇi saṃvārya śarair avivyādha sūtajam ||
Sañjaya dit : Alors Bhīma, le héros aux bras puissants—embrasé d’une farouche détermination et inébranlable dans sa vaillance—parait les armes de Karṇa par les siennes ; et, opposant arme à arme, il transperça le fils du cocher sous une pluie de flèches.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the warrior ethic that true prowess includes defensive mastery—neutralizing an enemy’s weapons—before launching an effective counterattack; it also shows how anger and resolve, when disciplined through skill, become decisive in battle.
Sañjaya reports that Bhīma, enraged and steadfast, counters Karṇa’s incoming weapon-strikes with his own weaponry and then wounds Karṇa by piercing him with arrows.
