Adhyāya 141 — Night duels: Śaineya and Bhūriśravas; Droṇi and Ghaṭotkaca; Bhīma and Duryodhana
वध्यमानो महाबाहु: सूतपुत्रेण पाण्डव: । न विव्यथे भीमसेनो भिद्यमान इवाचल:,सूतपुत्रके द्वारा बेधे जानेपर भी महाबाहु पाण्डुपुत्र भीमसेनको विद्ध होनेवाले पर्वतके समान तनिक भी व्यथा नहीं हुई
sañjaya uvāca |
vadhyamāno mahābāhuḥ sūtaputreṇa pāṇḍavaḥ |
na vivyathe bhīmaseno bhidyamāna ivācalaḥ ||
Sañjaya dit : Bien qu’il fût frappé par le fils du cocher, le Pāṇḍava Bhīmasena, aux bras puissants, ne chancela nullement sous la douleur ; tel une montagne qu’on fend, il demeura immobile.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣānti and dhairya (forbearance and steadiness) expected of a warrior: even when wounded, one should not lose composure or resolve, remaining firm in one’s duty amid adversity.
Sañjaya describes Bhīma being struck by Karṇa (the Sūtaputra). Despite the blows, Bhīma does not show pain or agitation, standing firm like a mountain even when it is being split.
