The verse highlights how leadership and intent shape collective action in war: a commander’s urging can drive an army forward, while the opposing side responds by rallying around a powerful champion. Ethically, it underscores the gravity of responsibility borne by leaders whose decisions intensify violence and its consequences.
Sañjaya reports that the Pāñcāla fighters, placing Bhīma at the front, rush to attack—specifically directing their assault toward Duryodhana—after observing the Kuru forces being pressed onward under the impetus of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s son.
