इत्युक्त्वा तांस्तदा हंसान् स शेते शरतल्पग: । एवं कुरूणां पतिते शृज्गे भीष्मे महौजसि
ity uktvā tāṁs tadā haṁsān sa śete śaratālpagaḥ | evaṁ kurūṇāṁ patite śṛṅge bhīṣme mahaujasī ||
Sañjaya dit : Après avoir ainsi parlé à ces cygnes, Bhīṣma—étendu sur son lit de flèches—demeura alors au repos. Ainsi, lorsque le puissant Bhīṣma, grande force et sommet de la gloire des Kurus, fut tombé, la cause des Kurus sembla comme si son propre faîte s’était effondré, marquant un tournant grave, moral et stratégique, dans la guerre.
