Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical-political reality of wartime leadership: honour, solidarity, and collective backing strengthen a ruler’s position, yet they also bind him more tightly to the chosen course of action—here, the Kaurava commitment to Bhīṣma’s command and the coming battle.

Duryodhana, praised and honoured by the Kauravas, goes to Bhīṣma’s camp. His brothers surround and accompany him continuously, indicating unified support as they approach Bhīṣma for leadership and direction in the war.
