Adhyāya 90: Babhruvāhana’s Reception and the Commencement of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Aśvamedha

ब्राह्मणास्तपसा युक्ता यथाशक्ति प्रदायिन: । “उस स्वर्गद्वारकी जो अर्गला (किल्ली) है

brāhmaṇās tapasā yuktā yathāśakti pradāyinaḥ |

Le beau-père dit : « Les brāhmaṇas, disciplinés par l’austérité et donnant en aumône selon leurs moyens, sont ceux qui peuvent vraiment percevoir la “porte du ciel”. Son verrou est façonné de la semence de l’avidité, et la porte est dissimulée par l’attachement ; c’est pourquoi y entrer est extrêmement difficile. Seuls des brāhmaṇas ascètes—qui ont vaincu la colère, maîtrisé les sens et donnent selon leurs forces—peuvent même apercevoir cette porte. »
