Abhimanyu’s Śrāddha; Vyāsa’s Assurance of the Unborn Heir
The verse offers ethical consolation: one should restrain excessive grief by remembering one’s dharma and the steadiness expected of a noble Kṣatriya lineage—sorrow is acknowledged but not allowed to overwhelm duty and composure.
Vaiśampāyana addresses a grieving woman, praising her noble birth and urging her not to lament for her son, using affectionate epithets (“lotus-eyed”) while redirecting her from sorrow toward fortitude.
