विपणापणवान्‌ रम्यो भक्ष्यभोज्यविहारवान्‌

vaiśampāyana uvāca | vipaṇāpaṇavān ramyo bhakṣyabhojyavihāravān | sa mahān parvataparaḥ mahotsavaḥ parama-maṅgalamayaḥ pratibhāti | tatra dūkānāni ca bāzārāś ca āsan | bhakṣya-bhojyāni yathā-iṣṭaṃ prāpyante sma | sarvataḥ paribhramaṇa-vihārasya saukaryaṃ āsīt | vastra-mālānāṃ rāśayaḥ saṃnihitāḥ | vīṇā-veṇu-mṛdaṅgāś ca vādyante sma | etaiḥ sarvaiḥ tatra ramyatā bahu vardhitā | tatra dīnānām andhānām anāthānāṃ ca nityam surā-maireya-miśritaṃ bhakṣya-bhojyaṃ dīyate sma |

Vaiśampāyana dit : Ce grand festival, dressé sur la montagne, paraissait souverainement de bon augure. Des échoppes et des marchés s’y alignaient ; mets et boissons abondaient selon le désir de chacun, et l’on pouvait aller et venir, se divertir, en toute direction. Des monceaux de vêtements et de guirlandes étaient disposés, tandis que résonnaient la vīṇā, la flûte et les tambours mṛdaṅga. Par tout cela, le charme du lieu s’en trouvait grandement accru. De plus, pour les pauvres, les aveugles et les orphelins, on distribuait sans relâche nourriture et boisson—mêlées de surā et de maireya.
