Yudhiṣṭhira’s Grief, Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation, and Vyāsa’s Admonition (युधिष्ठिरशोक-निवारणोपदेशः)
स कथं सर्वधर्मज्ञ: सर्वागमविशारद: । परिमुहा[सि भूयस्त्वमज्ञानादिव भारत,“भारत! इस प्रकार सब धर्मोके ज्ञाता और सम्पूर्ण शास्त्रोंके विद्वान होकर भी तुम अज्ञानवश बारंबार मोहमें क्यों पड़ते हो?”
sa kathaṁ sarvadharmajñaḥ sarvāgamaviśāradaḥ | parimuhyasi bhūyas tvaṁ ajñānād iva bhārata ||
Yudhiṣṭhira dit : «Ô Bhārata, comment se fait-il que toi—connaisseur de tout dharma et versé dans tous les enseignements sacrés—tu retombes encore et encore dans l’illusion, comme par ignorance ?»
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse contrasts scriptural mastery with susceptibility to moha (delusion): even a learned person must continually apply discernment, otherwise knowledge remains theoretical and one can relapse into confusion as if ignorant.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses his interlocutor as “Bhārata,” expressing surprise that someone reputed to know dharma and the teachings of the śāstras is nevertheless repeatedly becoming bewildered, and he challenges the cause of that recurring confusion.
