अध्याय ९ — धृतराष्ट्रस्य युधिष्ठिरं प्रति राजनित्युपदेशः

Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel on Royal Policy to Yudhiṣṭhira

न तद्‌ दुर्योधनकृतं न च तद्‌ भवता कृतम्‌

na tad duryodhana-kṛtaṃ na ca tad bhavatā kṛtam

«Cet acte n’a pas été accompli par Duryodhana, pas plus qu’il ne l’a été par toi.» Ainsi, Vaiśaṃpāyana encadre l’événement non comme le simple produit d’une volonté personnelle, mais comme quelque chose issu de forces qui dépassent le blâme individuel, invitant à une halte méditative sur la responsabilité, le destin et les retombées de la grande guerre.
