Go-dāna-stuti and Ghṛta-Japa
Praise of cow-gift and ghee-centered recitation
नाम संकीर्तयेत् तस्या यथासंख्योत्तरं स वै । “जो गौके निष्क्रयरूपसे उसका मूल्य
nāma saṅkīrtayet tasyā yathāsaṅkhyottaraṃ sa vai |
Bhīṣma dit : « Il doit prononcer le nom prescrit de ce (don substitutif à la vache), dans l’ordre convenable, selon la séquence indiquée. » Dans ce passage, l’instruction vise la justesse dharmique du don : même si, au lieu d’une vache réelle, on offre sa valeur de rachat (prix), ou du tissu, ou de l’or, le donateur doit, au moment du saṅkalpa (la résolution rituelle), désigner formellement l’offrande par le “nom de vache” approprié, afin que l’acte soit tenu pour un go-dāna correct quant à l’intention et à la forme rituelle.
