Vivāha-dharma: Kanyā-pradāna, Śulka, and Pāṇigrahaṇa-niṣṭhā (अनुशासन पर्व, अध्याय ४४)
The verse highlights the efficacy of disciplined austerity and correctly executed yajña: when undertaken with competence and resolve, sacred duty can yield swift and intended outcomes, reinforcing the Mahābhārata’s emphasis on dharma expressed through right action.
Bhīṣma narrates that shortly after the relevant event—within about one muhūrta—Devaśarmā, a powerful ascetic, finishes the sacrifice to his satisfaction and returns to his hermitage, marking the completion of a ritual episode and the ascetic’s prompt re-entry into āśrama life.
