अहिंसयित्वा ब्रह्महत्याविधानम् / Brahmahatyā incurred without physical violence
ये त्वेवंगुणजातीयास्तेभ्यो दत्त महाफलम् | सहस्रगुणमाप्रोति गुणाहाय प्रदायक:
ye tv evaṁguṇajātīyās tebhyo dattaṁ mahāphalam | sahasraguṇam āpnoti guṇāhāya pradāyakaḥ ||
Bhīṣma dit : Les dons faits à des bénéficiaires qui possèdent réellement de telles qualités portent un grand fruit. Oui, le donateur obtient un retour au milleuple, car l’acte de donner est magnifié par les vertus du receveur et par le discernement de celui qui offre.
भीष्म उवाच
Charity becomes especially fruitful when directed to recipients of genuine virtue; the donor’s merit multiplies greatly when giving is guided by discernment and respect for moral excellence.
Bhishma continues his instruction on dharma, explaining the ethics of dāna: the spiritual result of a gift depends not only on the act of giving but also on the worthiness and qualities of the recipient.
