Educational Q&A

A truly worthy recipient of charity is defined by Vedic learning (with its auxiliaries) and consistent engagement in the six Brahminical duties; sages value disciplined practice of dharma as the basis for eligibility.

In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma instructs on dharma, including rules of giving. Here he specifies the qualities of an ideal donee (pātra) for gifts: a learned and duty-observant Brahmin.
