Śiva-stavarāja: Upamanyu’s Preface and Initiation of the Śarva-Nāma Enumeration
Anuśāsana-parva 17
The verse emphasizes recognizing divine power through its qualities—radiance, irresistible energy, and swiftness. Ethically, it trains the listener to perceive greatness not merely by name but by observable attributes (tejas, vega), cultivating reverence and discernment.
Vāyu-deva is describing a formidable being by listing defining epithets: fierce form, solar radiance with innumerable rays, and extraordinary speed—wind-like, greater than wind, and as swift as thought—along with nocturnal movement.
