Shloka 13

पृथ्वीपते! जो परम महान्‌ तेज:स्वरूप है

pṛthvīpate! yo parama-mahān tejaḥ-svarūpaḥ, yo parama-mahān tapaḥ-svarūpaḥ, yo parama-mahān brahma, yaḥ sarvasya parama āśrayaḥ, yaḥ pāvana-tīrthādikeṣu parama-pavitraḥ, maṅgalānām api maṅgalam, devānām api devaḥ, tathā yo bhūta-prāṇinām avināśī pitā; kalpasya ādau yasmāt samasta-bhūtāni utpadyante, punaś ca yuga-kṣaye mahāpralaye yasmin te vilīyante; taṃ loka-pradhānaṃ saṃsāra-svāminaṃ bhagavantaṃ viṣṇoḥ sahasra-nāmāni mattaḥ śṛṇu, yāni pāpaṃ ca saṃsāra-bhayaṃ ca dūrīkurvanti. yāni nāmāni gauṇāni vikhyātāni mahātmanaḥ, ṛṣibhiḥ parigītāni, tāni vakṣyāmi bhūtaye.

Bhīṣma dit : «Ô seigneur de la terre ! Écoute de ma bouche les mille noms du Seigneur Viṣṇu—le premier des mondes, le maître de l’existence. Il est le tejas suprême, le tapas suprême, le Brahman suprême ; le plus haut refuge de tous ; le plus pur parmi les purificateurs tels que les tīrtha (lieux sacrés) ; l’auspice même parmi les choses auspicieuses ; le Dieu des dieux ; et le Père impérissable de tous les êtres. Au commencement d’un kalpa, de Lui naissent tous les êtres ; et lorsque s’achève un yuga, ils se résorbent en Lui dans la grande dissolution. Ces noms chassent le péché et la crainte née du saṃsāra. Je vais maintenant énoncer ces noms célèbres, secondaires par attribut (gauna), de ce magnanime—noms chantés partout par les ṛṣi voyants des mantras—pour l’accomplissement des fins humaines et le bien.»
