Bhīṣma dit : «Si un brāhmane a accepté en don de la viande, du miel ou du sel, il est purifié en demeurant debout, depuis cet instant jusqu’au lever du soleil.»
भीष्य उवाच
Improper acceptance of certain gifts (meat, honey, salt) is treated as a ritual fault for a brāhmaṇa, and it should be remedied immediately through a simple, disciplined expiation—standing in observance until sunrise—so that purity and eligibility for dharmic duties are restored.
In Bhīṣma’s instruction on dharma (Anuśāsana Parva), he lists a specific case of ritual lapse connected with receiving certain substances and prescribes a concrete prāyaścitta: remaining standing until sunrise to regain purity.
